New Database Username and Password

Dear Students,

The library is currently in the process of transitioning to a new catalog (live in January) http://lifepacificcollege.worldcat.org/. With this transition, there has been a change in the authentication process. Previously, patrons would use a generic username (lifepaclib) and password (prayer) to access all of our electronic materials from off campus. This generic account is no longer operational, and patrons will now need to use their Id# and create their own unique password. The process is very simple and shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. The library has created a short (3:40 min) video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH55l6Ack4Q to help provide instruction, and demonstrate some of the new features accompanying this transition.

Potential problems
·         If you receive the following error when trying to change your password, then please contact me because your account has not been loaded, or you are using the wrong username/id#.

·

When you setup your new password, the message will be sent to your lifepacific.edu email account. However, some of our Ignite, DCP, MASL students, as well as, some faculty members may have a different email account. Please be sure to check any and all email accounts from which you regularly receive notifications from Life.

Online Reference Works

As an online student, it can be difficult to access academic reference works unless you happen to live close to a local college, university or public library. To compound the problem, virtually all libraries, place restrictions on checking out reference works, and Life is no exception. Did you know that one of the ways Life Pacific Alumni Library supports our distance students is by providing online reference works?
The LPC Library subscribes to Credo Reference and Oxford Biblical Studies Online. Both of these resources can be accessed through the libraries website at http://lifepacific.edu/academics/academic-resources/#library.
Credo Reference provides 642 reference works, with over 3 million full-text entries by 70 publishers. There are images as well as concept maps to help identify the web of interrelated fields of study to a particular concept/subject. Another benefit is the aggregated search feature which is connected to the database platforms the school subscribes to (ProQuest & Ebsco). This means that when you search for a particular subject, Credo will also link to the databases in those platforms.
Oxford Biblical StudiesOnline provides 12 reference works along with numerous online resources, biblical texts, interviews, images and maps, and so much more. There are 17,554 entries arranged alphabetically. Users have the confidence that comes with the Oxford University Press name.
The beauty of these online resources is their ability to hyperlink to other articles and websites, as well as provide suggestions for similar topics. The web of knowledge is amazing and we highly encourage you to visit these sites and experiment with the many features. As always, should you need assistance, please contact us at:

Downloading eBooks

Hello DCP and MASL Students,

The library currently has over 1400 eBooks available to be downloaded. In addition, the library will be experimenting with a 2 month trial of Ebsco host’s eBook Academic Subscription Collection of over 160,000 titles, in mid-October.

The library has created a short tutorial to demonstrate how to download an eBook from Ebsco. Please be sure to create an Ebsco account and download the necessary reader for your particular device (desktop, tablet or Kindle). Unfortunately, if you are using the new Windows’ Surface tablet, there are currently some compatibility issues but we are looking for a work-around.

Once the eBook Academic Subscription Collection is available, please investigate the content and provide the library with feedback regarding your impressions.

Feel free to contact the Library if you need assistance.

Finding Periodicals in the Library Catalog

Hello,
You now have the ability to identify articles from the library's print periodicals, which may be relevant to a particular topic in your research. Should you find an article you would like to use simply contact the library by phone, email, IM or by clicking the Library – Information & Resource Request Form, And provide us with the name of the article, the periodical , the author, the issue and volume # when available, and page #s. We will copy the appropriate pages and pdf. a digital copy to you. The following print journals have been added to the catalog:
  •  Journal of Pentecostal Theology (completed)
  • Leader to Leader (completed)
  • Journal of Psychology & Theology (completed)
  • Harvard Business Review (in-process)

Here are a couple of tips for accessing the journals:
  • Use the “Keyword” and “Subject” tabs, but avoid using the “Author” tab as there are too many authors within a periodical to be able to use this feature
    • “Keyword” searches will return results which have the keyword located anywhere in the record (title, subject, article titles, etc.)
    • “Subject” searches only return results which have your term in the subject field.
  • To limit your search to periodicals only choose the “Mixed Material” type and then use the “Keyword” or “Subject” tabs.
  • To see a list of the periodicals - Change the “Material Type” drop-down to “Mixed Material” and then click the “Series” tab or type the name of the particular periodical and click “Keyword”
  • Some print periodicals are also available in one of our databases. Preview the record under the “Publishing Info” section and in the “Format” field to see if there are instructions for where to locate the article. (Click on images for a better view)
